At Hite & Corley, we believe that selling a home is about more than square footage and closing dates. It's about helping people fall in love with a place they'll call home and that's exactly why a few members of our team recently completed the Greenwood Ambassador program through Discover Greenwood.
The Greenwood Ambassador program exists to build a network of locals who genuinely love this community and want to share that enthusiasm with others, helping people "Love It Like a Local."
Over the course of a full-day training we sat through a classroom session on everything Greenwood has to offer. We heard directly from a panel of community leaders and toured the county from behind the wheel. By the end of the day, we walked away with official ambassador credentials and a much deeper appreciation for everything that makes Greenwood special.
Here's a look at some of the spots highlighted on the guided tour...
STOP #1 : Uptown Greenwood
(where you can find the beautiful Discover Greenwood location!)
Our first stop was right in the heart of it all. Uptown Greenwood is a walkable, historic downtown filled with locally owned boutiques, locally-owned restaurants and cultural gems like the Greenwood Museum and the beautifully restored Arts Center.
Between the Uptown Market pavilion, pollinator gardens and events like the SC Festival of Flowers, it's easy to see why this is the beating heart of our community and why we always tell clients this is where Greenwood's small town charm really comes alive!

STOP #2 : Ware Shoals, Hodges & Cokesbury College
A short drive from Greenwood sits Ware Shoals; a mill town founded in 1902 along the Saluda River. What started as a two-person operation grew into a thriving textile community of thousands and you can still feel that history in landmarks today. It's a reminder that this area's story runs deep and that even our smaller towns carry a strong sense of identity and pride!
STOP #3: Lake Greenwood State Park
For anyone who loves the outdoors, Lake Greenwood State Park is a must. The park sits along the shoreline of the sprawling 11,400-acre Lake Greenwood which offers boating, fishing, hiking, and camping! It's also home to an annual half-Ironman each September — proof that this community shows up for adventure as much as it does for front-porch relaxation.
STOP #4 : Ninety Six National Historic Site
History buffs, take note: Ninety Six National Historic Site preserves one of the most significant Revolutionary War sites in the South, including the reconstructed Star Fort and the grounds of two pivotal 1781 battles! We learned SO much history here. So much so that it was hard not to feel connected to just how much history shaped the ground our clients will one day call home!

STOP #5 Benjamin Mays Historic Site
Perhaps the most moving stop on our tour was the Benjamin Mays Historic Site, which preserves the childhood home of Dr. Benjamin E. Mays.
Dr. Mays was a Greenwood County native who became one of the great intellectual architects of the American civil rights movement, mentored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and led Morehouse College for 27 years.
It's a powerful reminder that Greenwood isn't just a nice place to live — it's a place that has shaped history and continues to shape the people who call it home!
For us, this day wasn't just about earning a badge. It was about immersing ourselves in the all things Greenwood because after all, our goal isn't just to help someone buy a house here.
